I Am a Dog, I Like It

In the cold outside is my home,

Security I am they say, alone

I don’t get much in return,

They always go out to have fun,

And leave me behind, around to run.

But to be obedient always I learn,

Even if I mean anything to none,

It hurts to the core,

But I’m just a dog.

Food time, ever at ten,

Once a day, and I can’t complain,

When everyone is full of,

Mostly chicken,

I get my share far in the kennel,

From crumbs that fell off the table,

To me that is heaven,

At least I get to eat, unlike poor men.

At my master’s feet in the dining,

The highest place I have ever been,

He drains down wine into his bulging belly,

As I scratch out fleas from my skin, smelly,

Occasionally kicks just to remind me

That beside him I rarely deserve to be,

I take it all in my stride,

I revel in my pride,

For I know out there I make the rules,

The cat sees me and flees,

The neighbor’s dog hears me and pees,

But that’s all there is in my existence,

To me it makes a lot of sense,

So being a dog is not entirely bad,

Out there I can always be heard.
