Quality Improvement in Education

The educational program of TerraCommunity College needs revision so that it can be formatted in a manner that facilitates evaluation of accountability. The revised program should be one that facilitates the evaluation of students’ growth on yearly basis. The teaching sections should be designed in a manner that incorporates the emotional and social needs of individuals from diverse racial backgrounds. This would facilitate enhanced interaction between the tutors and their students. To the advantage of the learners, the curriculum should be flexible enough in order to foster enthusiasm amongst the stakeholders, especially the students. This curriculum should ensure that the materials being utilized are attuned towards the enhancement of racial integration. This would lead to a diversified medical team in the states, a situation which would facilitate effective service delivery.

The process of indentifying areas of improvement should commence with an in-depth interview with participants being drawn from the students as well as the teaching staff. The responses should then be comprehensively analyzed in an endeavor to identify the areas that need to be improved for better service delivery. The analysis should be inductive so as to increase the level of acceptability of the recommendations amongst the stakeholders. The institution should encourage other forms of feedback mechanisms in order to encourage participation of all stakeholders during the formulation of strategic goals (Gutek, 2004). The institution should then device a strategy of ensuring that all the important pieces of information are documented in a conventional manner which would ease the evaluation process. Additionally, effective documentation would facilitate the determination of the strengths and weaknesses being exhibited by the educational program.

A school curriculum should be one that fosters enthusiasm and passion for learning. The program should facilitate the apprehension of concepts with regard to the leader’s capacity. To achieve this, the revised curriculum will be prepared in a flexible and creative manner that balances diverse racial backgrounds, technology, ecological sensitivity, and developmental readiness. This will facilitate empowerment through social intelligence and self-knowledge. Aspects of social integration and technology will feature in all aspects of the curriculum. Such a strategy will be meant to facilitate learning through developmental models where students are able to recount the experiences (Cahn, 1996) that they have been through while detailing their achievements in learning.  Basically, the school will hold lesson blocks of 2-3 hours a day for various domains.

The students of this institution will be learning according to a unique developmental model that caters for a racially diverse environment. This will be done in the belief that learning is meant to be experienced, and as such, there should be no rush in educating the students. Main lesson books will be created where the students will be able to recount the details and experiences that they have learnt over a certain period of time. The learning arrangement will be one where rhythms of days and seasons are nurtured in a manner that creates a stimulating environment. For instance, the students will be receiving detailed evaluations at the end of a schooling term (Ozmon et al, 2007). This is unlike the report cards with number and letter grades that are given in most institutions of learning.

The school will embrace an all-round curriculum, a curriculum that impacts knowledge upon a student when his/her mind and body has the capacity to process the messages being received. Contemporary elements will be resisted so as to prepare the student for an effective absorption. As such, computer and information technologies will be incorporated in the learning process whenever necessary. As such, their introduction will take place when the curriculum has called for them, and by this time, the tutors and the school administration will be in a position to answer all the relevant questions regarding their implementation.

The school curriculum will emphasize the need to assume various social and extracurricular activities. This will present the students with an opportunity to experience the cultural diversity, a scenario that will lead to the recognition of the community’s robust cultural history. This will be represented in the curriculum and in the manner in which the institution approaches various educational strategies (Knight, 1980). This is especially necessary because nurses are expected to care for persons with impaired physical or mental capabilities who, in most instances, come from various cultural and racial backgrounds.

The institution will endeavor in broadening the understanding of the students with respect to the realities in the society. It will achieve this by bridging the contact between students from different backgrounds as they engage in activities like vocational and social initiatives. This will help the students to be sympathetic and compassionate to others, a situation which will enable them to develop the desire to assist those in need. Additionally, such initiatives and team efforts will facilitate the building of community spirit between class members. This will harness the student’s capability to work together for a common goal in trust and cooperation. This will, therefore, help the students to embrace the diversity in the community in an enthusiastic manner.

The tutors will be encouraged to share their views with parents and other stakeholders as well. This will facilitate innovation in the mode of teaching and learning, a situation that will, in effect, encourage an accommodative engagement. Furthermore, such exchanges will facilitate the determination of additions that need to be made in order to enhance the revised educational program. There will be an in-depth evaluation of the educational program once in every 4-5 years. The evaluation will incorporate the institution’s performance record in comparison to others that are of a similar category. As such, all stakeholders will be required to participate in the process of formulating the guiding principles and governance structures, all of which should be laid down in a concise and clear manner. The structures should be in a format that facilitates the evaluation of accountability. As the institution is established under an agreement between the stakeholders and the state (Cahn, 1996), its guiding principles should be in a manner that guarantee autonomy while demanding accountability.
