Civil War

The United States of America just like any other country has gone through many challenges that were aimed at bringing reforms in the country. The civil wars that were experienced in America resulted from reforms that weren't being delivered by the government and this lead the American citizens to revolt in order to free themselves and encounter some change and improve their ways of life in the country (Katcher, p.127).

The first main cause of the civil war in America was the ideological differences about the constitution. This is when there was a division on the way the government was supposed to be structured, as one team was for the federal government while another section was against the federal form of government (Gettysburg National Military Park, paragraph 2). The federals were seeing that it was better if the states were united to form one country that had a central government in the Washington DC. On the other hand, the non- federal activists were against the use of federalism as this might lead to the states might loose there sovereignty to the main federal (central) government as there laws and activities will collide (McPherson, p.287).

The other cause of the civil was the different interests and ideologies of the Northern and Southern parts of the country. The differences between these two sides of the country resulted to the civil war; in that, the northern part of America was composed of the manufacturing industries yet they didn't have the raw materials, while the southern side was relying on large scale farming yet it had a few manufacturing industries that would manufacture these products. Thus the northern side had abolished slave trade while the south was practicing it in order to ensure that it acquired cheap labour that would help in the farms. These differences resulted to the civil war as the northerners were against the southerners practices (Woodworth, pg 75).

The other cause of the civil war in America was the heavy trade tariffs that were imposed on the exportation of and agricultural sector (Katcher, p.165). These tariffs mainly affected the southern part of America that major depended on export and agriculture as the southerners majorly got thier produce from the north and Europe. Therefore these changes affected the southerners resulting to the South Carolina exposition in 1828. This was aimed at protesting against the increased tariffs stating that the new tariffs that were imposed affected the economy of the region. On the other hand, the South Carolina senator John C. Calhoun advocated for an improved and well reviewed tariffs that will support the internal federal expenses (Gettysburg National Military Park, paragraph 1).

The difference implementation of laws in the states was another cause of the civil war in America, this because the different reasoning and laws that were being practiced in the country, as some of the states in America were divided in the struggle for independence and other internal laws such as the issues of gay marriage and human rights, the federal government wanted to impose a general law that would be followed by the states these wasn't well taken by the states thus making the different states to revolt as they would lose there soverenity to the federal government.

The south wanted to succeed form the northern part of America, this is because they felt that they were being exploited by the northerners who were most elite and occupied top seats and they were against the ways that the southerners treated the slaves and at the same time they were ruling in favor of the northerners yet the southern part contributed a lot in the economy of the country, the then President Jackson used troops to attack the southern part to stop them from there idea resulting to the war that in the end united them to forming one American nation (Woodworth, pg 356).

The other cause of this civil war was the election of Abraham Lincoln, President Lincoln was seen by the southerners as there enemy, this is because he was strongly opposed to the slave trade in the country and in this case slave trade was mostly rampant in the southern part thus the southerners weren't happy that he was the president (Gettysburg National Military Park, paragraph 6). The south were afraid that he would automatically advocate and impose laws that would stop the trade in the south thus it resulted to the secession of seven southern states from the union these sates includes South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas (Woodworth, pg 575). These resulted to make the other southern states to join in the civil war in attempts aimed at protecting there interests from being jeopardized by the federal government of the north under the leadership of president Lincoln.

The end of the Mexican War was another contributor of the civil war and in its completion the war America had acquired new territories that were with there own laws, thus the central government had a rough time in ruling these new territories which included states like California, Utah and New Mexico practiced slave trade and never wanted to stop the trade, and the influence of the federal government that was aimed at stopping this trade made the states feel that they were losing there freedom to the government thus the states had to revolt against the federal states in order to safeguard there freedom from the central government(Gettysburg National Military Park, par 8).

The last cause of the civil war was the states and federal rights, the constitution of America hadn't clearly highlighted on the rights of the states and the federal states, the states were in the verge of losing there sovereignty to the central federal government and this was highly un appreciated by the statesmen thus resulting to the revolt that resulted to the civil war.
