DEGREE PROGRAM RATIONALE Mentor: Degree: Bachelor of Arts Registered Area of Study: Community and Human Services Concentration: Healthcare Services Management I. Introduction to the Degree Program Health care services provide a systematic, purposeful method for organizing and delivering nursing care in flexible settings. I have enrolled at Empire State College to obtain a Bachelor of Science Degree in Healthcare Services Management and as such, my goal is to learn to assess clients’ level of health and to diagnose responses to health problems. It offers me the opportunity to concentrate on specifics OF healthcare traits and assists in evaluating my progress. I realize that health service managers are increasingly joining clinicians and other health workers in using the language of community needs to justify local changes in health services—changes that typically redefine what types of healthcare will be available and often ration access to it.

When healthcare needs are invoked, policy debates, technical problems in healthcare management, epidemiology and healthcare ethics meet wider but more technical philosophical questions head on. I chose healthcare management to be able to influence important decision that can make a difference for the community from within the system. II. Concentration By learning various subjects such as Case Management, Healthcare Management in the 21-st Century, Crisis Management, etc I acquired essential knowledge in this area.

The volunteer work and employment as the Administrator at the Local Healthcare Center gave me an opportunity to see that much improvement was needed in healthcare. After analyzing the situation I decided to become a professional in this are to initiate positive changes in the ways the healthcare management system is structured and organized. III. General Learning As mentioned above, I received a profound knowledge in the subjects that are crucial to my future career in the healthcare management field (e.g. Healthcare Management). What is more I realized that one way to attempt such changes is to begin by examining how the concept of healthcare has been used in the US health policy and managerial contexts.

This will furnish a set of questions about needs for healthcare, from which a fresh attempt at critical analysis can begin, with the aim of leading towards a more coherent, explicit and valid understanding of what health needs and healthcare needs there really are (if any). The conclusions will have obvious implications for controversies about both health policy and clinical practice. It implies, however, that a different approach is required for initiating changes in the healthcare system. IV. Conclusion My undergraduate education at Empire State College helped understand the great value of providing quality care in medicine. Patients have become more aware of quality care and are more capable of articulating their hopes and needs.

It is essential to provide a quality care in the modern world and understand the following concept. However well a hospital meets the articulated needs of current patients, it runs a great risk if it doesn’t have a view of the needs patients can’t yet articulate, but would love to have satisfied. But why is it important to me paying attention to the importance of patients? What advantages and benefits can be gained from listening to the patients’ point of view? The answer lies in the fact that patient orientation, especially, has worked as a significant driving force, as a “push” toward a networking way of action. By learning how to satisfy the needs and wants of the patients I will become a high-standard specialist in my area and will be successful in my profession.
