A good leader must possess the following key attributes:  first, one must be an example to his followers. He must be trustworthy and act as a role model to others. Honesty and integrity are important values for a leader. This makes it possible for his members to develop trust for their leader. In addition, he must be a man of action (Dennis, 2000). This implies that he must be willing to take responsibilities.

Second, a good leader must be confident. Leadership involves giving directions to those being lead. Therefore, in order to set the directions in the right manner, the leader must be confident as well as take the leadership role (Collins, 2003). In essence, such kind of a leader instills confidence in others. In addition, others feel motivated hence contribute effectively to ensure that the goal of the team is achieved. The task can therefore be accomplished well and in the best time possible.

Third, a good leader must be committed to excellence. He must be able to maintain high standards and be proactive in facilitating success of the team.  The leader should see that all areas excel and no one if left behind.

Fourth, a good leader should always appreciate the effort of his followers. One should never underestimate the effort of others. In stead he should devise measures to motivate them to work hard in order to be at per with others (Collins, 2003). When one is appreciated, one feels inspired to work extra hard towards the right thing. Appreciation should be genuine and given where it is due.

Fifth, a good leader should have a well articulated vision. The vision must be clear for what one intends to achieve (Dennis, 2000). Moreover, he should be able to overcome resistance to change not by compelling the followers but mediating with them to see the essence of change. The new ideas should be fresh that inspire change and evolution to the workforce. The leader should believe in the progress made by the team. Moreover, one should be able to approach criticisms in the most suitable manner (Dennis, 2000). One should not argue with his colleagues and exchange bitter words. Rather, there should be around table where one gives his or her won views and opinions about the situation at hand.

A good leader should not only be humble but also reserved. This implies that he should be approachable. This is vital as humility may encourage others in greater lengths (Dennis, 2000). This may also make members to develop respect to him. Therefore, the leader should use principles that show his willing to listen to others. On the same, he should be available and ready to make negotiations with others.
