The evidence-based practice in nursing can also refer to as the empirical support practice. It is preferred and used in cases of behavioral and mental treatment interventions. This is applicable mostly in situations where the empirical research is available to give evidence that is statistically significant for treatment of stated problems. In addition, the evidence-based practice is a promoter of data collection, data interpretation, and integration of data that are necessary, and valid. Furthermore, this system is significant in clinical observation, reports of patients, and evidence derived from research (Terry, Sue, Boland, and Katheren, 2011).

In nursing, evidence-based practice aims at ensuring that evidences available are the best and that moderation of this evidences are purely from the patients’ preferences, and circumstances. All this aim at improving the quality of clinical judgment, and minimization of costs incurred for health care. In this paper, the focus is to conduct a research on evidence-based practice in nursing to be able to determine the significant and downfalls of such activity. Recommendations and the conclusion concerning this method will form part of the paper.

Objectives

3.To look at the research done by other scholars concerning this practice and the results found.

4.To explain the various methods that one can use in research and those used in this paper.

5.To come up with results from the various research done by earlier scholars.

6.To come up with suggested recommendations and conclusion related with this practice.

Literature review

When one is working within the profession of nursing, it is essential to incorporate new information in the form of the findings from the research. As a result, the nurse who in most cases is the staff that is responsible for evaluation and incorporating change into the practice of clinics. In most cases, the health care organizations may or may not have the necessary resources used in ensuring a critical, and responsible evaluation. As a result, most of these organizations are beginning to introduce mechanisms that will assist in facilitating the translation of information from literatures to practice (Vicki, 2011).

According to many scholars, evidence based nursing practice refer to certain ways of most of the literature evidences into practice. I addition, they have gone as far as coming up with a case study that describes the process of converting findings into nursing practices such as administration and practices. In the case study, the hospital had 205 licensed beds, 15 rooms in operation and an emergency department that was level 2 (Linda and Rene, 2007).

In this case, the inpatient unit includes care that is intermediate and those critical in nature. The nursing environment bases on technology whereby, the records related to medical issues are always kept in electronic database. In addition, a unit designed to monitor epilepsy has been instituted, each nurse has a wireless phone, and a surgical system that is robotic. All the staff members especially the nurses are registered, and the patient care assistants assist these. This participation is vastly encouraged. Some of the support staff includes the educators who are unit based and the clinical nurses who are specialized.

According to various authors, the act of translating the research-based evidence into practice involves integration, and collaboration of services. Most of these features are prominent in the medical providing centers. This strategy is significant in many organizations as it acts as the driving force towards the achievement of the organization mission. In health care providing centers, the mission is to provide the most favorable care to patients on the combination of research, education, and practice. This case is one of the examples that most of the scholars use to explain the significant of evidence-based nursing practice, both to the organization, and patients.

Methodology

In most cases, while conducting a research, most of the researchers use either primary or the secondary strategies to collect data. The primary sources of information are those that are collected first hand from the field. These include tools such as questionnaires, direct or indirect observation, and interviews. Questionnaires are documents that consist of a set of questions to be filled by a researcher. The design of these questions is such that researcher can either post them to the designed parties to fill the questions on their own. On the other hand, a researcher can be there personally, as those questioned fill the questionnaires. While using observation, a researcher visits the place under research and view things as they happen, as they keep records. Interviews involve face-to-face interrogation of an interviewee by an interviewer.

The secondary sources of information consist of secondhand information. This is information collected from books, journals, articles, newspapers, and electronic database among other sources. These are information kept in records. This consists of researcher done by other scholars earlier and recorded in documents for future references. In this paper, information is from the secondary sources such as professional journals and articles (Linden, 2011).

Results and Discussion

According to research by various scholars, it is clear that evidence based nursing practice play a significant role in ensuring continuity in health centers. In addition, it is clear that most of the nurses who employ this strategy can openly explain the costs they would have otherwise incurred on employment of other strategies. Furthermore, this strategy provides a solution to dilemmas related to clinical issues. Some of the dilemmas related to medical issues include conducting an efficient research, conducting critical appraisal of evidences, and the implementation.

As a result, majority of the nurses have a positive attitude or view regarding the evidence based nursing practice. They have a strong believe that this strategy will help minimize time spent; costs incurred, and at the same time ensure that the patients get quality services. Despite the fact, that the nurses have a positive attitude towards evidence based nursing there are numerous barriers related with it (Linda and Rene, 2007). Some of these challenges include the fact that it requires group work. This is so because; a nurse may not be able to come up with effective evaluation while working alone. Some of the factors contributing to this lack of confidence by nurse that he or she can be able to come up with an efficient evaluation while working alone.

Researchers claim that, most of the organizations that employ the evidence-based nursing practice have help to ensure that the desired services are given to clients. In addition, patients interviewed claimed that this practice contribute to efficient services. The time spent by patients in health care centers has reduced significantly. Therefore, it is worth nothing that this practice is significant and crucial role to both health care providers and patients.

Recommendation

Bearing in mind that most of the nurses have claimed that this system has numerous barriers; action must be taken to ensure that solutions to these are obtained. Some of the recommended actions to curb these barriers include:

1.Giving nurses leave, or days off duty to be able to get themselves time for study in the library and conduct research concerning the various ways of conducting independent evaluation.

2.In health care centers, it is necessary to establish libraries where nurses can comfortably conduct research.

3.In the library, all the relevant materials talking about evidence based practice nursing should be available to ensure that when the nurses visit such place, they will be able to get whatever they need.

Conclusion

Sincerely speaking evidence based nursing practice play a significant role in contributing to the demands of the public. In addition, it plays a significant role in ensuring that the healthcare centers do not incur unnecessary costs that can bar them from giving quality services to the public. However, improvement in quality that has been noted does not intend to create scientific knowledge, but rather, act as an improvement in the processes adopted for delivering services. This is dedicated to the health care centers. As a result of this move, most of the health expertise lay a lot of focus on care improvement by monitoring actions using the Microsystems' connections between certain areas.

Finally, initiatives designed to improve the quality are set in a way that  they are capable of  addressing clinic related problems, analyze processes taking place in health centers, and use indicators to highlight problems. Once the data collection is complete, through analysis done to ensure that at the end, proper evaluation is possible, and the end outcome is as per the expectations. At the end of it all, the results will contribute enormously in maintaining continuous improvement of performance in an organization (Linden, 2011).
