Air travel remains a large and growing industry. It facilitates economic growth, world trade, international investment and tourism and is therefore central to the globalization taking place in many other industries.

“Created one of the greatest cultural forces since the development of writing, for their invention effectively became the World Wide Web of that era, bringing people, languages, ideas and values together. It also ushered in an age of globalization, as the world’s flight paths became the superhighways of an emerging international economy. Those superhighways of the sky not only revolutionized international business; they also opened up isolated economies, carried the cause of democracy around the world and broke down every kind of political barrier. And they set travelers on a path that would eventually lead beyond Earth’s atmosphere.”

This paper is about the airline industry which is currently undergoing serious economic distress. This paper would help in understanding the role of Information Technology in creating an efficient and effective Human Resource for Airline Industry.

Once upon a time people used to wonder whether they could fly like birds or not. They were not even sure of this doing this. It took many years for the man to achieve its goal. In a short period of 100 years this dream of man to fly came true. Man started with their abnormal experiments. It was Wright Brothers who really gave the wings to the whole humanity and taught them how to fly high up in the air. After years of hard work man is now capable to fly at a very high speeds and altitudes. All this is accompanied by accuracy, time saving, greater fuel efficiency, huge air freighters that are now being used to transport the valuables of a nation from one place to another, and undoubtedly the peaceful use of the space exploration technology (Wensveen, 4, 2007).

Singapore Airline is among the most favored airlines in the world. Singapore Airlines has not achieved this position so easily. It has implemented many strategies that have redefined the standards of profitability and customer services. Although it has restructured all its departments such as Finance and Marketing, we would be looking at the functioning of Human Resource Department. We would be looking at the strategies implemented in this department and what company has gained from this (businessteacher, 1, n.d).

Singapore Airlines identified Human Resource Management as a key component in increasing the productivity of the employees. They also found a link between the employee’s productivity with the motivational policies implemented in an organization (Thompson, Gamble & Strickland, 2005). People with higher level of incomes would definitely be highly motivated in comparison with the lower income people in Singapore Airline. Moreover, higher pay is related to the difficulty of tasks/jobs and required skills. This means that higher pay would be provided to those individuals who have higher levels of vocational skills and education. Ultimately Singapore Airlines identified that just to increase the compensations would are not necessarily a source of increased productivity. Productivity levels are also influenced by non monetary rewards (businessteacher, 1, n.d).
