Cost Cutting among Community Colleges

Introduction

College students are in front of budget cut in California community colleges that makes learning difficult for students. Budget cut causes a lot of problem such as cutting down classes and other learning facilities. It also includes decreasing aid to poor students. Budget cut not only impacts college students, but also it does affect professors and college staffs. Many colleges are forced to reduce college’s staffs’ hours and lay off teachers in order to compensate some of the budget cut. Community colleges started to resolve this problem by increasing tuitions, cutting some helpful program. Beside these ways which are not helpful for students there is some reasonable way to resolve this economy crisis, “Lake News p 12.”

Community colleges in California are the most affordable college education programs in California. Community colleges have come up with a way of reducing cost in colleges. Cost reduction in community college has a large effect on students. Students have to dig more deep to their pockets for college fee. This would strain most people a lot most students would therefore, not get a chance to go to college because they might not be able to raise the fee. Reduction of college fee would also lead to reduction of private tutors. Increase of class size would increase more work to a tutor. There would be no more close relationship between a lecturer and the students. Since they are many in class and each of them need more attention. The work load of the tutor will also increase. Lecturers go through students work, and hence would lead to lack f keenness. A great number of students were doing work program in college to raise the fee. Reduction of these programs may force some students to drop out of college. Increase of online instruction may also be disadvantageous to some students as they may not have access to internet at all times.    

Weak students will therefore, have more work to do or they may get weaker. The quality of education will at the same go down as the students would not get enough attention from their lectures as they would get from the tutors. Although it may seem that this would help boost the economy of the nation, the economy might go down since poor families would not be able to pay college fee for their children. As we know, education is one way out of poverty. 

Most students being forced to drop from college would mean less number of people would be graduating from college annually. The skilled work force would go down which may mean that more skilled labor would be imported from other countries.

Colleges have devised a way of cutting the cost by reducing the number of private tutors. Students who did not need more private tutoring are discouraged or will have to raise some amount to get themselves a private tutor. The classroom size is also is also increased meaning a lecturer will be given a larger number of students to teach. This will cut down the number of lecturers hired and the halls which will be required to conduct tutoring. Most of the instructions will be done online this will also enable one lecturer to attend a number of students at the same time and the students are not required to attend classes in school. They can do their study at home. There is also a reduction of students work programs. College would not have to pay more fees for students who work for them. There is a general feeling that students who would have otherwise not really require work program benefit from it. These programs will be more competitive and only the deserving students will be considered

Colleges also encourage the intake of international students. Most of these students originate from Europe, Asia, Australia and a small percentage is from Africa. Most people around the world have a belief that American education is of high quality than other parts of the world. Colleges have also increased tuition fees for international students. This is one of the sources of income to the college. Some unnecessary programs have also been cut down to reduce the expenses. Only most necessary programs are encouraged in school.
