V. Body: I. Walt Disney exhibited admirable leadership qualities in the animation production industry, a quality that earned a number of recognitions, not only in America, but also in other nations of the world. A. By the time Walt Disney was dying; he earned the most awards among key players in the entertainment industry, for example, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and French Legion of Honor (Gitlin 89). Despite the disappointments Walt Disney encountered in developing his talent, he never gave up. B. Referring to one incident, Williams and Denney remarked that “Another early crisis in Walt Disney’s career tested his leadership ability and revealed what authentic leadership is all about. There is much we can learn about leadership by emulating Walt’s strengths and avoiding his mistakes” (73). II. As a producer Walt Disney had not only perfected the art of creating visual representations for his animations, but he could also transfer the same skills in the actual vocals. As a result, Walt Disney was able to demonstrate to the world that his passion for animation was inherent by giving ‘real life’ to the visual animated objects. A. For example, he provided the high pitched voice of the character Mickey Mouse for a significant amount of time. In a way, by using his own voice Walt Disney succeeded to give the characters a definitive role to play. III. Walt Disney created animated characters that were able to successfully blend into the American culture as entertainment icons. As a result, the characters created by Walt Disney ended up blending almost like real life personalities in the human society in which they were increasingly becoming popular. A. According to Sutcliffe “Mickey Mouse was a movie star. His name was in theatre signs. He got fan letters. Soon, cities and towns all over the country had Mickey Mouse Clubs” (21). B. In essence, Disney has become an embodiment of American culture, consequently featuring as the ‘Stories R Us’ from generation to generation. C. The image of Disney has transformed into an representative icon of American culture, which is further enhanced by the penetration of Disney Empire into the social life cycle of every American.
