Social Inequality

There has been a big debate on gender equality for quite a long time. It is hard to say if the gender equality will exist ever  However, with numerous movements carrying out awareness programs on this issue, it is likely that this could be achieved in the future. Complete equality implies that both men and women can be treated as equals. In comparison with the 1970’s, women’s movements are stronger now. Both men and women realize that they can take part in economic activity. Women do not want to be associated only with a kitchen and domestic chores. In today’s world, women are also engaged in various professions like men; they are considered to be colleagues. Actually, some women assume leadership positions in their work place (Henslin, 2012).

At times, feminists may seem to exaggerate the issue of inequality, especially of sexual inequality. This is because women defend such notions as molestation and bullying, however they overlook the fact that some of them provoke this kind of treatment. The reason can be even their mode of dressing. As a result, they play a victim yet they actually provoke an abuser.

The issues raised by feminists’ movements seem to contradict the religious beliefs of Christians, Jews and Muslims. According to the patriarchal religions, women are supposed to be submissive to their husbands. This implies that men should be the stronger sex. I tend to think that the feminist movement is attacking  religion due to the fact that it seeks for equality of both genders (Henslin, 2012).

Feminists are individuals who support the idea that women should have the same rights as men.. Personally I would say that I am a feminist, because I believe that everyone, irrespective of his/her gender, should have equal chances to available opportunities without any discrimination.
